Product RFID & special development

Sextant Technology Ltd has developed a Radio Frequency Identification system for use by CEBC/CNRS/IPEV in demographic studies of the Emperor penguins in Terre Adélie, Antarctica. This low-cost portable instrument consists of a small rugged field monitoring station and a linear network of antenna laid on the pack ice.
A trial performed in 2009 showed that our prototype worked perfectly well and that the deployment was feasible by a single operator. This allows a large number of birds to be monitored on the pack ice at the breeding colony.
The instrument will be fully deployed in Terre Adélie in 2012.
