Research

Sextant Technology has been engaged in research on species and their relationships with the environment over many years. Since 2005, we have participated in several programmes to assess the impacts of fishing on non-target species, such as seabirds, marine mammals, and sea turtles. We have developed Ecological Risk Assessments that have been applied at the level of national fisheries and in fisheries commissions. Our research has brought together collaborators from fisheries commissions, industry, the research community and fishery managers.

The Sextant team has led research programmes on seabird species and sites over many years. Our work in challenging environments has included the remote islands of the Pacific, and sub-Antarctic sites in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

The research team at Sextant Technology provides a unique combination of natural history and analytical skill. We are assisting with programmes for the conservation of rare species, and developing new field techniques. Because of our field and research experience, we are well placed to develop customised solutions for the needs of clients.
